Since May 9, Bb services have been provided via a "hosted" server at Bb, Inc. (BMH)
 Log in via CUNY Portal
(no alternate access to Bb8 at this time
)

To access Blackboard, you must have a CUNY PORTAL ID.

 Courses starting with Spring '09 (Bb8)
Fall 2009 courses were created June 1
(students will see them only after the instructor makes the course available)

Earlier courses  (Bb6)

Most Bb Organizations (aka Communities) are on Bb8, but some are still on Bb6

  • Bb8 continues to work  normally -- and has been working normally for quite a while  now. Things are looking much better these days.
    However, there have been a few reports this week that Bb login does not function properly , but these problems appear to be intermittent and fleeting (though clearly annoying when they occur). In this case, try using another browser and/or reboot your computer and try again. However, we have alerted CUNY/CIS  and we will keep you posted on new developments all through the holiday weekend via this page. We are aware that finals for summer  courses are coming up next week ....

    (Problems and solutions in the recent past, updated 7/1)

    However, just in case something goes wrong (again), we urge all faculty to consider alternate ways to make essential course materials available to their students. We first posted suggestions how to deal with a Bb outage in March and we are continuously updating this page. Contact Bb support for assistance with implementing any of these suggestions.

  • If  you  experience problems with access to Bb8 at all or extreme slow response at a time when we report normal operation, please contact us and  provide detailed information
  • As a precaution, keep periods of entering text into Bb8 short and save your work frequently, e.g., by using "copy-and-paste" and (for faculty) attaching files to "items" rather than entering longer text directly via the Bb text editor, to avoid any loss of work (this is the recommended practice anyway).

  • How to deal with a Bb outage (for faculty) -- just in case (updated 6/16)
  • What to do if you can't log in or the Bb pages display slowly (updated 4/24)
  • Notes on some recent problems -- and solutions -- with Bb features and components (updated 6/24)
We appreciate your patience and understanding during the past months, it was a difficult spring semester.
