Daily Update
Blackboard
8 continues to work normally.
Usage continues to be
high; we had
over 1.3 Mill. logins for the month of
September and we have surpassed
this number for October.
However, to
be on the safe side, check out our advice
on being prepared and/or find troubleshooting
tips if something does
not
work for you. Also,
at times some users may
see Bb behaving strangely. In this case, follow our tips on to how to deal with
such a situation.
links
(if
you are new to Bb at CUNY scroll down
-- even if you are not new, scroll down once in while, there is more)
via the Portal Start page
- HELP: Click "Portal Log-in", then
select from either the regular
or the alternate
menu
(at any given time only one of the two menus is available),
then enter your Portal user name and
password
- Shortcut
Login
(for Bb8 only)
- HELP: Just enter your
Portal user name and password (view
an example, this
link does not lead to the real login page, just to an image)
Additional
hint:
Many people let
their browser store their CUNY Portal password. If
need arises, you can retrieve your Portal password from the browser of
your
home/office computer (here is how
with Firefox).
Maintenance
Non scheduled.
The reserved BMH maintenance window
is Fridays from 2-6 am, but a special
announcement will be made about any actual maintenance taking place.
Advisories
If
you use a public computer (e.g., in a computer lab or in a smart
classroom), make
sure to close all
windows of your browser after logging out from Bb -- to
delete the "session cookie" and prevent unauthorized access to your
Portal/Bb account.
And don't
forget to sign up
for CUNY
Alert
CUNY Alert is a notification
system through which you receive text or voice alerts of
emergencies or weather related closings at Hunter via cell, home phone,
and/or email (you
determine how).
General
Advice
- Should
you run into problems, here is the first thing you may want to
try: Use another browser and/or reboot your
computer and try again. For more details and why this may work see our troubleshooting tips. If the
problem persists, contact Bb support.
- Just
in case something goes wrong (again), we urge all faculty to
consider alternate ways to make essential course materials available to
their students. We
first
posted suggestions
how to deal with a
Bb outage in March and we are continuously updating this
page. Contact Bb
support
for assistance with implementing any of these
suggestions.
- If
you
experience problems with access to Bb8 at all or extreme slow response
at a time when we report normal operation, please contact us
and provide
detailed information.
- As
a precaution, keep
periods of entering text into Bb8 short and save your work frequently,
e.g., by using "copy-and-paste" and (for faculty) attaching files to
"items" rather than entering longer text directly via the Bb text
editor,
to avoid any loss of work (this is the recommended practice anyway).
